Effing Owls!!!
Sorry to channel Vernon like that, I just thought that it was a funny thing to say. But I did find some interesting things about owls and I thought that I'd share.
Snowy Owls (the type of owl that Hedwig is) live, on average 15 years in the wild and about 28 years in captivity. I think that it would be fair to guess that magical animals live longer than their mundane counterparts (like Wizards and Muggles). It's also like that their lifespans would be more equivalent to those of captive birds rather than the wild ones. So it's quite likely that if one were writing a future fic, that Hedwig would most likely still be around, unless she's killed by some other manner.
