Do Message Boards Make You Stupid?

I was reading something on a DW message board and I just had to wonder, Is there some kind of stupidity requirement at some of these sites? Because the inability to grasp simple concepts like "alternate universe" seems to a prevalent disorder. It's really starting to bug.

I think people should have to take a test proving they are competent enough to post on boards. Grr..

I haven't been to message boards much, but enough of my friends post at them - for many fandoms - I have to wonder if you're onto something. The level of "Idiot" on boards seemingly far exceeds any on comms, etc.

It does seem to be a pan-fandom phenomena. It seems that you have to be childish, boorish and stupid to gain any footing on boards. I've gone through this with about four different fandoms and it always ends the same way: I give up in disgust.
