Have You Ever...

Read something (novel, short story, fanfic, etc) that had a fabulous concept but was utterly ruined by the fact that it's author just really sucked? I mean bad grammar, trite dialogue and so on and so on. Because it seems to me that this is happening more and more lately and I'm wondering if I'm just being picky or is there really a decline in the quality of writers out there?

Yeah, I've had that happen a few times...like...wow, what a great plot bunny/idea/situation! and then you keep reading and it's like...uh... hmm. Sort of makes you scratch your head and want to cry. lol

I'm really not trying to be mean, I just think that some people need to realize their limitations. Honestly, I was reading a fic that had a brilliant idea but I cringed at the writing. They actually used lol. LOL. In a fic.

*tries not to pull out hair*

It's my general rule not to focus on things I don't like so I don't really comment on fics that I think are awful, but I think I might start doing so (privately). There doesn't seem to be much I can do about pro writers, though. I swear, I bought a book a few weeks ago, and I couldn't even finish it. The idea was good, but everything else...ugh. I honestly felt that the writer should have refunded my money.

Maybe I really shouldn't complain. It's not like I actually write fics or books myself.

...

Not a chance. I just might start writing again. Because honestly, I know I can do better.
