DW S4: In Which The Crack Is Totally Getting to Me...

I just finished watching the episode and I must admit the crack has finally gotten to me. D/R relevant. Sort of. If you squint. Spoilers for all UK aired episodes but nothing beyond that and the finale is only vaguely mentioned.



Prior to the series start I read that this year's "Bad Wolf" wasn't a phrase as such but a series of clues leading up to something special. Now at this moment, I have to say that my tongue is at least partially in my cheek when saying this (I'd say about 50/50).

I might just be being overly superficial but the thing that seems to be the continuing thread through all the episodes so far is...reproduction. Or if you want to be more specific, alien reproduction. The Adipose, the Pyro-whatsits, the Sontarans, Jenny and Rev. Golightly were all direct examples of some sort of continuation of a species (PotO dealt with this more indirectly but it still fits I think). In one way or another,all of these episodes represent some sort of procreation.

So what does that mean? Well, I don't know what will happen exactly but somehow the idea of continuing a species will be important for the finale. Maybe we will find out that Rose really was pregnant (because Time Lords reproduce through hugging, don't you know.) or that Jenny is the key to victory. But likely it will something less blatant but still relevant to the finale.

Honestly, a part of me thinks it has to be some sort of smoke screen and maybe the missing and/or destroyed planets are the real clue to what's going on (though whatever happens, this is probably an important part of it). And now I shall stop rambling before I actually convince myself this is true.

"Babies!" really is a pretty big subtheme this series so far.

It's very interesting. there's been a lot of things repeating, forebodings, warnings, but I hadn't noticed the babies.all that's missing is a few goldfish.
maybe all those cries of TIEMBABIES!!!! were heard
or maybe RTD's been reading too much fic

I'm starting to think reproduction is the hidden theme of S4 too. Another interesting thing is that it's all different species reproducing together (like with the Human and the Wasp, the Daleks mingling with Human DNA in PotW, Alien species coming to Earth for reproduction, etc.). Very interesting. I can't wait to find out what's going to happen. :3

That is an interesting point you make. Why is all of this happening now and by now, I mean at this point in the Doctor's timeline.

Ooh, that's really interesting. :D I'm not *wild* about the "planets are collapsing" theories (don't know why, I'm just not), though "babies" has the possibility of being even more terrifying. Hee.

Of course, I mostly expect RTD to do something completely cracky and out there that no one could predict.

The very same thing occurred to me. Someone pointed out it's been going on since S1, but this season, it's really come to the fore. I'm beginning to think someone's throwing anvils.

I hadn't noticed that it had been going on since S1 but honestly I haven't watched S1 in months but I'm thinking of going back through the episodes and seeing if I can see more.

Ha! I was going to make a post about this exact same thing. I've been seeing this since the beginning. I felt like I was seeing things, but apparently it's not all in my head. I'm glad we've both reached the same conclusions.

I'm trying very hard to deny this as well, because it DOES sound completely nutters. I'm almost afraid to see where it's all going.

Yes! This exactly how I feel. A part me is thinking that there's no way but another part of me thinks it's almost genius. Your icon seems very appropriate at the moment.

I first started to think this back at 'Gridlock', what with the cat/human hybrids. Throw in the DD conversation and all the subsequent reproduction/hybrid hints, it does somewhat point in that direaction. I love the idea and it is for that reason that I am dubious. I must expect RTD to break my heart and go nowhere near happiness for D/R.
