Oh, yes he does and that's why it's one of my favourite plays but I always perk as his death nears as it's one of the more deserved deaths in the English language. I feel that way about Othello too.
YES! Othello too! This is one of the reasons I love Shakespeare. He knew that there were people in his audience who would not see certain deaths as tragedy. They would observe them with great lulz.
I know that the tragedy can also be their fatal flaws, but most people assume it is the death in the end that is the tragedy.
Like Romeo and Juliet? Am I the only one who wants to yell at Romeo, Are you a freaking idiot? Knock it off! about twenty times during the play?
What I don't like about Hamlet is the structure of the story. I think there are lots of wonderful solilquies...great opportunities for young actors to emote...and lots of opportunities for character interpretation, too.
As I a writer...I would say too many opportunities for character interpretation...sooner or later a play should have something to say...some point to make...and in my opinion other than Hamlet is a whiny, maladjusted ass...that one doesn't say much.
But maybe I'm being too hard on it. Compared to Othello...well...there...the play is clearly suited to the Elizabethian idea of tragedy...and it's a clear line for the characters to follow. Sure, they are a bit clueless...but there are genuine reasons for their behavior...and the play is about jealousy...on many levels. So, it works for me.
*claps* YAY! Hamlet is such an annoying emo-boy. He annoys me so much. Every time I see the play I want to kick him in his silly little spoiled rich boy ass and tell him to grow a set.
And I'm just looking over your headings when I see this one. And AMEN! I hate Hamlet...the play and the character. And I like me some Shakespeare...totally love Othello. But Hamlet...NO! I know it contains some of the most quoted lines ever...and I even understand the fascination for an actor as he tries to make it all seem fresh and explores the depths of his own twisted psychology...but really...what a dog of a story and what a really annoying whining character.

Lack of common sense is NOT a tragedy. lulZ!

And I see you love Hamlet as a play...oh, well...for a moment we were in perfect harmony.

And you don't like Hamlet? Not unheard of. There's a lot of it that's not all that great but I do like solilquies.
