Because I Was Thinking About It: Battlestar Galactica End of Series

Recently I’ve been watching Battlestar Galactica on DVD (well, mostly listening to first season commentaries) and I was reminded of a thought that I had while watching the third season finale. Now I know there’s been some discussion about this being the series last season and whether or not it was because of the rating the show had. The thing is, while I’m sure that ratings factored in (on television how could it not) I don’t really think that was the deciding factor for the fourth season being the last one. Ronald D. Moore has said time and again that BSG is a show that has definite arc and that the end of the show is finally getting to Earth. When I watched the finale back in March I remember clearly thinking “If next season isn’t the last one, they’re just padding the thing out.” The third series finally so clearly points them in the direction of finding Earth that I can’t imagine that how it could take more than one more season to get there, so I’m really sort of glad that the upcoming season is the last one.
